Acid Reflux :
Acid reflux is a stomach issue in medical term known as Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease. Patients diagnosed with this condition experience discomfort in the esophagus as stomach acid returns back into the esophagus or undigested food particles and liquids goes back to mouth. It is characterized with the symptoms of heartburn, chest discomfort, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness and other related problems. These symptoms improved with certain lifestyle modifications and avoiding spicy or junk food, which alleviated from getting worse. Moreover, patient experience this condition due to having defective lower esophageal sphincter, family history of GERD, obesity, overeating and other related problems. This condition is clinically evaluated by a gastroenterologist with the help of different tests. Treatment includes medications such as antacids, proton pump inhibitors and surgical intervention in severe cases. If left untreated, this condition may progress to chronic stomach issues like Barret's osophagus and might result in respiratory complications. Therefore, the patient has to follow up with GI specialist for effective treatment.
