Acid Peptic Disease :
Acid peptic disease comprises a wide range of conditions that damage the lining of the digestive tract due to stomach acids and digestive enzymes. Among them, the primary constituents of acid peptic disease include peptic ulcer disease, dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and gastritis. Peptic ulcer disease is described as the presence of ulcers in the stomach lining or the lining of the duodenum. GERD is the acidic backwash of stomach acid and digestive enzymes. Inflammation of stomach lining is termed as gastritis and dyspepsia involves common indigestion complaints. H. pylori bacteria is primary cause of acid peptic disease. The symptoms of acid peptic disease include stomach pain, bloating and gas, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea, difficulty in swallowing and vomiting. The treatment plan to deal with acid peptic disease involves making dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, stress management, taking antacids and medications, avoiding smoking and quitting alcohol.
