Family Physician :
A family physician, commonly called a family doctor, specializes in delivering comprehensive healthcare benefits to people of all age groups. To qualify as a family physician, one has to complete an MBBS graduation from a reputed medical college, followed by a post graduate degree in MD, General Medicine. The common conditions dealt with by a family physician include chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, acute infections like ear infections, flu, sinus infections, common cold, allergies and their effects and various mental health conditions. They also conduct regular health checkups, are responsible for vaccinations, screen for various diseases, provide counselling about nutrition and lifestyle modifications and also refer to other specialized doctors based on the treatment needs and the illnesses. Emergency services, such as treatment of minor injuries and other conditions, are also provided by a family physician. One should see their family physician for symptoms such as chronic pain, changes in skin appearance, fatigue, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, etc.
