Vaginal Prolapse :
Vaginal prolapse is also called pelvic organ prolapse. Generally, this vaginal prolapse occurs when the muscles supporting the pelvis are weakened, resulting in a bulge in the vagina. The vaginal vault, which is the top of the vagina, falls down into the vaginal canal called vaginal prolapse. The symptoms noticed in vaginal prolapse are a feeling of lump or bulge in the vagina, the feeling of fullness in the vagina, urinary incontinence, low back pain, frequent urinary bladder infections, feeling of slipping out of the vagina, difficulty in passing stools, difficulty in sexual intercourse. The most common causes of this vaginal prolapse are menopause, childbirth, hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), vigorous physical activity, and also older age. The diagnostic tests advised to diagnose this vaginal prolapse are pelvis examination and may advise MRI scan or ultrasound pelvis. The treatment options include nonsurgical treatment and surgical treatment. Nonsurgical treatment includes kegel exercises and vaginal pessary, which is inserted in the vagina. The surgical treatments are sacrocolpopexy, vaginal vault suspension, and colpocleisis.
