Renal Angiogram - Kidney :
A renal angiogram is an imaging procedure that is performed to assess the blood flow to your kidneys, and to look for any abnormalities such as a narrow, bulging, or a blocked blood vessel. Your doctor may suggest performing a renal angiogram if he/she suspects any problems with the blood vessels of your kidneys such as blood clots, bleeding, blockages, arterio-venous malformation (abnormal connection between the arteries and veins), narrowing, bulging, or to detect any tumors or any complications after a kidney transplant. A renal angiogram may also be performed in situations where your doctor did not get enough information from an MRI or a CT test.
Before the procedure is performed, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any x-ray dye, sea food, and items that contain iodine. Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, or have any kidney failure or problems.
After the procedure, you may be kept under observation at the hospital for a period of 24 hours or more.
