Cystitis :

Cystitis is a urinary tract infection (UTI) that occurs in the bladder, causing inflammation and discomfort. It can be a bacterial cystitis(most common type), viral cystitis (often seen in people with weakened immune systems), interstitial cystitis (chronic non-infectious inflammation of the bladder). The risk factors for cystitis include bacterial infection usually by E. coli, urinary tract abnormalities, hormonal changes,spermicide use, catheter use, sexual activity and certain medications etc.

Signs and symptoms include suprapubic pain(region below the umblicus), painful urination, frequency and urgency of urination despite having an empty bladder, cloudy or strong smelling urine, blood in urine, fever associated with chills, nausea, vomiting , abdominal pain etc,.Diagnosis is made by urine analysis, blood tests, urine culture and sensitivity,imaging tests like CT or ultrasound, cystoscopy etc,.Management is usually by identifying the cause and treating it which may include antibiotics, pain management, fluid replacement, surgery in severe cases ,rest and other supportive care
