Ringworm :
Ringworm is a common fungal infection that develops on the skin. It is known as ringworm because it forms a ring-shaped rash on the skin. The rash is reddish in colour and it causes itching. Ringworm spreads easily via contact with an infected person or an object that has been touched by an infected person. This fungal infection can affect people of all ages. The risk of this infection is higher in individuals who use public showers, have a weak immune system, sweat excessively or work with animals.
A dermatologist can easily diagnose ringworm by visually examining the affected area. The doctor will also inquire about any other symptoms that are present. In some cases, the doctor may remove a piece of the affected skin and send it for lab testing, which can confirm the diagnosis. Ringworm is treated with antifungal medications such as creams, powders and gels. If an individual is severely infected, then a doctor may prescribe oral medications.
