Diabetes in Adults :
Diabetes in adults is of different types such as prediabetes, type-1, type-2 and gestational diabetes. Diabetes can affect all age groups and genders. It is characterized by increased thirst and urinary frequency, dry mouth, vision changes, weight fluctuations, frequent vaginal or urinary tract infections and slow healing capacity of the wound. Insulin resistance, autoimmune diseases, hormonal imbalances, pancreatic dysfunction and genetic predisposition may all contribute to developing diabetes.
Some of the complications of diabetes are peripheral neuropathy, retinopathy, diabetic foot and skin infections, coronary artery diseases, periodontal diseases, and severe hypoglycemia. Diabetes is diagnosed based on investigatory tests like random blood glucose, and fasting blood glucose, A1c tests. It is managed with regular blood glucose monitors at home, oral medications, insulin injections, diet and physical activity regimen.
