Ventricular Septal Defect :
Ventricular septal defect(VSD) is a condition where a hole is formed between two lower chambers of the heart wall. It is a congenital heart defect and may be caused due to repeated trauma to the chest and anti-seizure medications. Symptoms of ventricular septal defect are shortness of breath, struggle to breathe, sweating, fatigue during feeding, slow weight gain, and respiratory infections occurring frequently. Types of VSD are membranous, which is most common and happens in the upper section of ventricle walls, a muscular inlet where a hole happens below the tricuspid valve in the right ventricle and mitral valve in the left ventricle and outlet creates a hole in the right ventricle just before the pulmonary valve. Diagnosis is made by performing imaging tests like echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, chest x-ray, CT scan, and cardiac catheterization. It can be managed by using diuretics and heart failure medications and by repairing via surgery and transcatheter procedures.
