Vaginal Discharge :
A clear white fluid that is made up of cells and bacteria produced by the cervix, vagina, and uterus is called vaginal discharge. This acts as a lubricant and protects the vagina from infections. Changes in colour or odor of the discharge are a symptom of infection. In general, the vaginal colour is white, and the odor is not so strong. If the vaginal discharge colour is yellow, gray, or green, it is considered a sexually transmitted infection, if the discharge is brown or red, it is considered to be an irregular menstrual cycle. Some of the reasons why the vaginal colour may change are bacterial infection, yeast infections, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis. An underlying disease like uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, usage of certain chemicals like scented soaps, and intake of antibiotics are also some of the factors responsible for vaginal discharge. Maintaining proper hygiene, control of underlying diseases like diabetes mellitus, maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding tight innerwear are some of the precautions that might be advised. Regular checkups with a gynecologist will help the patient to maintain proper health.
