Thrombophlebitis :
Inflammation due to a blood clot in the vein is called as thrombophlebitis, which occurs usually in the veins of legs and hands. The are affected usually gets reddened, swelling of the tissue , tender and warm to the touch and can be painful. Risk factors for thrombophlebitis include recent injury, surgery, inactive patients, diseases like cancer, stroke, family history of clotting disorders, injections. Diagnosis is done by physical examination, palpation methods and ultrasound (if required ). Treatment includes warm compression and applying gel to decrease the thrombophlebitis. Thrombophlebitis is commonly seen in hospital scenario where patients require multiple transfusions to be administered.
