Ringworm :
Ringworm, also termed as tinea corporis, is a fungal infection that leads to the formation of ring shaped patches on skin. Ringworm is categorized into various types such as athlete's foot, jock itch, scalp ringworm, hands (tinea manuum), beard (tinea barbae) and toenails or finger nails (tinea unguium or onychomycosis), based on the affected regions of the body. The presenting complains indicating ringworm infection include circular, ring shaped plaques or scales, hair loss or bald spots in the affected region, and flat patches with a raised, round border or itchy skin. The risk factors associated with ringworm are a weakened immune system, working closely with animals that might have ringworm, autoimmune diseases like lupus, sweat excessively and participating in high contact sports like wrestling. The treatment plan for the management of ringworm infection includes oral medications like steroid creams, fluconazole, antifungal creams, powders and antifungal shampoos like ketoconazole shampoo.
