Rectal Prolapse :
The rectum is the end of the large intestine that is attached to the anus. Rectal prolapse is a condition where the rectum breaks loose from inside the body and slides out of the anus. It is an uncommon condition that develops gradually. As the condition worsens and more of the rectum falls out of the anus, it may need to be pushed back in. In some patients, the prolapsed rectum continually sags outside the anus. The condition may be caused by age, pregnancy, infection, injury, chronic diarrhea, or constipation. Besides the tissues hanging out of the anus, rectal prolapse can cause itching, pain, or pressure in the anus. A colorectal surgeon can diagnose the problem with an anorectal examination. The doctor may recommend surgery to prevent the rectum from prolapsing further.
