Optic Neuropathy :

Optic neuropathy is damage to the optic nerve due to various factors that leads to defect in transmitting visual information from the eye to the brain thus leading to vision loss in late stages. Optic neuropathy may occur due to various factors like trauma (head injury , optic nerve damage), ischemia (decreased blood flow), infections like meningitis, optic neuritis , multiple sclerosis, sarcoidosis, methonol poisoning , chemotherapy , vitamin b12 deficiency , tumors like gliomas , meningiomas etc,.

Optic neuropathy leads to vision loss or blindness, blurred vision, double vision, difficulty in colour perception, depth perception , pain during eye movement, sudden loss of vision, decrease in colour vision (especially red). Examination with ophthalmoscope may reveal swollen optic nerve in most cases and other symptoms confirms optic neuropathy. Management of optic neuropathy involves finding the cause and treating it like surgery (EEA-Endoscopic endonasal approach) to alleviate pain and symptoms associate with it.
