Nystagmus :
Quick movement of the eyes uncontrollably is known as nystagmus. The motion of the eyeball can be in any direction, either up, down, side to side, or circular; nystagmus can occur in life or can be congenital nystagmus in children. Symptoms include moving surroundings in a circular motion, blurred vision, difficulty being stable, sensitivity to brightness, and spinning of the head(vertigo). This condition could be underlying to another problem like developmental issues with the eye, retina disorders, stroke, and some type of brain tumors. An opthalmologist diagnoses this by performing an eye exam and checking for any eye problems. If necessary, further evaluation by a neurologist is needed; CT and genetic tests can help in finding out the condition. Nystagmus is corrected by glasses, medications, surgeries to correct vision and specific eye muscle surgery. There is no known prevention of this condition.
