Nose bleed, also termed epistaxis, is described as the loss of blood from the tissue that lines the inside of the nose. Nose bleed are classified into several types, such as anterior nosebleed and posterior nose bleed. If nose bleed starts in front of the nose on the lower part of the septum, it is known as an anterior nose bleed. Posterior nosebleeds occur deep inside the nose, near the throat in the larger blood vessels. The factors responsible for causing nose bleed include dry air, injuries of the nose, allergies, sinus infections, upper respiratory tract infections, the presence of any objects in the nose, blood thinners, use of antihistamines, a deviated nasal septum, recreational drugs and high altitudes. Bleeding from nose and bad taste in the back of the throat are the warning signs of a posterior nose bleed. The management of a nose bleed includes various options like nasal packing, advising medications, cauterisation, removing foreign bodies, and surgery like ligation and septoplasty.
