Nipple discharge :
Nipple discharge can be considered as normal in women and people who are assigned as female at birth. The associated signs are considered normal during late pregnancy , lactation, hormonal changes, sexual arousal, increased friction against nipples and clothing, stress and injury to nipples. In such scenarios, it can be a clear/yellow/brown/green discharge typically from both of the breasts with no pain or swelling, often voluntary. It can be alarming if the discharge is bloody, from male nipples, associated with severe pain or swelling, appearance of lump or cyst, involuntary, and occurring only from single nipple. These symptoms are indicative of underlying pathology like tumors, abscess or severe hypothyroidism. It is highly recommended to visit gynecologist for further evaluation and diagnostic investigations like hormonal tests, ductogram, imaging and biopsy of the concerned nipple. The subsequent treatment is based on the underlying cause and respective management options.
