Nephrectomy :
Nephrectomy is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove a part of the kidney or the entire kidney. There will be two types of nephrectomy procedures, which include radical nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy. Nephrectomy will be done in cases of kidney tumours, infections of the kidneys, when the functioning of the kidney is stopped, for treatment of polycystic kidney disease, and in cases of donating a kidney to others. Before doing the procedure of nephrectomy, one needs to undergo certain tests such as physical examination, temperature check, blood pressure, and blood tests to know the blood group. Nephrectomy will be done in two surgical approaches, called open nephrectomy and laparoscopic or robotic-assisted nephrectomy. There will be a few risks which are seen in nephrectomy, including infection, pain, bleeding, sepsis, blood clots, kidney injury, postoperative pneumonia, anaesthesia complications, and scarring. In case of cancer of the kidney, the nephrectomy procedure is a life-saving option.
