Narcolepsy :
Narcolepsy is known as a disease condition that affects sleep, where the brain does not control the sleeping and waking patterns. Narcolepsy will make a person fall asleep during the daytime, suddenly, without warning. The two types of narcolepsy will be narcolepsy type 1 and narcolepsy type 2. The symptoms observed in narcolepsy include uncontrollable sleep during the day, sleep while writing or driving, sleep paralysis, loss of muscle tone, REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, and hallucinations. The diagnosis of narcolepsy will be done through diagnostic tests like a sleep study, multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness test, spinal tap or lumbar puncture. The treatment advised for narcolepsy will be through medications and changes in lifestyle. The lifestyle changes include regular physical exercise, scheduling sleep patterns and maintaining that, having short naps of sleep, managing stress, cessation of alcohol and tobacco smoking.
