Mums :
Mumps can be described as a contagious and viral infection. Mumps will affect the salivary glands, causing swelling of the jaws and face. Mumps can mainly occur due to a virus called the paramyxovirus. It will be transmitted through saliva droplets while coughing, sneezing, and talking. The symptoms that can be seen in the case of mumps include fever, parotid gland swelling, loss of appetite, muscle pain, and headache. There are other severe symptoms of mumps, which include stiff neck, stomach pain, vomiting, high fever, seizures, and confusion. Prevention of mumps can be done by vaccinating the child with a vaccine called MMR (measles, mumps, rubella). The diagnosis of mumps can be done through diagnostic tests such as blood tests, rarely advised urine tests, and a sample from the mouth. Children with mumps will recover within 3 to 10 days. The treatment advised for mumps will depend on controlling the severity of symptoms, such as pain relievers to reduce the pain, adequate rest, a cold or hot pack over the swelling, and drinking lots of fluids.
