LASIK eye surgery is an abbreviated form of Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis. It is an elective procedure / vision correction surgery for vision discrepancies such as shortsightedness, farsightedness or both. This procedure focuses on using laser technology to reshape the cornea tissue and improve the vision.The complete procedure can be completed with in 30 minutes to 60 minutes.
It is performed by well trained ophthalmologists / eye surgeons after thorough evaluation and investigations. There are potential risks associated with the surgery such as developing dry eyes, light sensitivity, improper corrections, double vision, difficulty with vision during night hours and regression. It is not recommended for pregnant women, people with compromised immune system, and personal/family history of eye diseases and disorders like cataracts. It is generally not covered by medical insurances. Post operative care and instructions are essential to follow to avoid further complications.
