Impetigo :
Impetigo is a very contagious disease. This disease affects mostly the infants and younger children, though adults are also easily affected. The bacteria penetrate the skin through cuts, insect bites, or any other tiny crack in the skin through Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It is transmitted by open sores from one person, or by touching infected towels or clothes. A red sores that crack and ooze fluid. it eventually develops a yellowish-brown crust. Impetigo often occurs on the nose and mouth, hands, and especially feet, but can appear anywhere on the body. Sometimes an individual may find that a spot with impetigo is itchy or uncomfortable.
Treatment typically involves topical antibiotics to clear up the infection. Oral antibiotics are given once the infection becomes worse. Good hygiene will also prevent impetigo, by keeping hands washed frequently and the areas being cleaned. Isolation of the infected individual is very important to try and prevent their infecting of others, though they will remain infectious until at least 24 hours into antibiotic therapy.
