Hirsutism :
Hirsutism is a hormonal condition seen mainly in females and presents excessive growth of hair on body parts like the upper lip, chin, chest, abdomen, or back region. The other symptoms of hirsutism in females include virilization (increased androgen hormone in females), signs such as a deeper voice, decreased breast size, increased muscle development, clitoris enlargement, increased sex drive, and acne formation. The medical conditions responsible for causing hirsutism include natural production of androgens, postmenopause, Cushing's syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), medications like anabolic steroids, minoxidil, testosterone, and cyclosporine, and other conditions like ovarian disorders and adrenal gland disorders. Hirsutism is managed using various methods such as taking medications like birth control pills, androgen-suppressing medications, insulin-lowering medications, low-dose steroid medications, gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, and eflornithine skin cream, weight loss, hair removal options such as laser hair removal, electrolysis, and home remedies such as bleaching, shaving, waxing, and plucking or tweezing.
