Hepatitis :
Hepatitis is a viral infection that damages the liver causing inflammation. Hepatitis is categorized into several types, namely, viral hepatitis which includes hepatitis A, B and C, toxic hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. Toxic hepatitis encompasses drug induced hepatitis and alcohol induced hepatitis. The symptoms of hepatitis include pain on right side of upper stomach, fatigue, diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, yellowish skin or a yellow tint to the white part of eye, mental confusion, itchy skin, dark colored urine and light colored stool. Exposure to hepatitis virus is the primary cause of hepatitis. Hepatitis is transmitted to other people through various means such as bodily fluids, contaminated blood and food poisoning. To confirm the disease, investigations like liver function tests, imaging tests including nuclear liver and elastography or spleen scan and liver biopsy are conducted. Hepatitis is treated by taking antivirals, making lifestyle changes and liver transplantation.
