Flat foot :
Flat foot or pes planus is described as a disease that causes the foot to touch the ground directly because of flattening of arches in the foot sole, when a person stands or walks. Flat foot begins when the arches don't develop because of an underlying medical condition or later on when the feet lose their natural arches. This condition is commonly observed in babies as the arches develop during early childhood. The significant signs of flat foot include ankle pain and foot pain after walking, and pain in the lower back and hips. The long-term effects of flat foot are chronic pain, even when a person is not walking, gait disorders, abnormalities, and deformities like bunions or hammertoes. The congenital factors responsible for causing flat foot condition include cerebral palsy, clubfoot, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Down syndrome, and osteogenesis imperfecta. Acquired flat foot occurs mainly due to arthritis, injuries, Charcot foot, and posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.
