Facial Palsy :
Facial palsy or facial paralysis is a condition in which there is paralysis of muscles on the face on one side or both sides. The facial palsy can be caused due to many reasons, such as stroke, tumours, Bell's palsy, trauma, infections, and other conditions that can lead to facial palsy, including sarcoidosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, and Lyme disease. The symptoms which are seen in facial palsy will be unable to close the eye on the paralysis side, drooping of mouth, dry eyes, eyelids, dry mouth, cannot make expressions on face like smiling, drooling of saliva, raising eyebrows, frowning of forehead, pain around the jaw, loss of taste, pain in the ear, sensitivity to sounds. The facial palsy will be diagnosed based on physical examination, MRI scan, and neurological examination. The treatment for facial palsy will be through medications, and surgical management will involve the repair of the nerve damage, eye care with eye drops, and physiotherapy for improving the strength of facial muscles.
