Eye Discharge :
A medical definition of ocular discharge could be described as the release of any liquid from the eye. This could be due to several underlying causes and might appear clear, yellow, green, or brown in color. The most common causes of discharge include conjunctivitis more commonly known as pink eye, allergies, infections, and some people may be due to tear duct blockages or corneal abrasions.
They may be due to infection with bacterium or viruses or irritants that induce an inflammatory reaction and raise the level of mucus. It may be red and swollen, itchy, burning, or tearing excessively. Again, the discharge can crust the lids especially overnight, where it sticks the lids together when you awake. The treatment for infection depends upon the type of infection. The conjunctiva could be suffering from an infection of bacterial conjunctivitis and therefore may need antibiotic eye drops, whereas allergies might be treated by using antihistamines or avoidance of allergens. Proper hand washing and avoiding rubbing the eyes at times may possibly avoid infections. If one's symptoms persist, such as continuous eye discharge or other symptoms such as pain or changes in vision, then it must be presented to a doctor.
