Dystonia :
Dystonia is a disease that affects the nervous system and thus leads to uncontrollable movements of muscles. The dystonia will be caused due to disruptions of brain functioning, and the causes will be classified into primary dystonia, dystonia plus, and secondary dystonia. The symptoms that are seen in the case of dystonia will be uncontrollable movements of muscles, stretching of muscles, a feeling like electric shocks, tremors, and twisting of muscles. The other symptoms of dystonia will be segmental dystonia, hemidystonia, focal dystonia, multifocal dystonia, and generalised dystonia. The diagnosis of dystonia will be based on the symptoms of an individual, and the diagnostic tests will be blood tests, electromyogram, which is a nerve conduction test, electroencephalogram, CT scan, genetic testing, PET scan, spinal tap or lumbar puncture, and MRI scan. Dystonia can be managed using medications, deep brain stimulation, Botox injections, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physiotherapy.
