Dry skin is a common complaint which we come across in our daily life. It is also known as xerosis in medical terminology. Various factors like change in the climate , cold weather ,taking showers for a prolonged time under hot water ,usage of certain chemicals in form of soaps and bath gels etc. Underlying diseases like uncontrolled blood sugars , hyperthyroidism ,and other diseases like psoriais can also lead to dry skin. Symptoms of dry skin include scaly , itching or redness of the skin. Dry skin is mostly observed on palms , feet and face of the patient. Life style modification is usually suggested .Skin moisturizers and usage of soaps which has mild chemicals and low PH would be suggested .Treatment also includes low dose of steroids if the symptoms are not relieved by the moisturizing agents and change in the life style.
