Diabetic Retinopathy :

Diabetic Retinopathy is a complication of chronic uncontrolled diabetes which leads in damage to the retina resulting in loss of vision. It is one of the leading cause for blindness in developed countries. Each person suffering from diabetes from long time will have some amount of damage to the retina with or without symptoms. It can be seen through examination of the retina. Over a period of time persons may experience symptoms like cotton wool spots that appear, bleeding of small blood vessels in the eye, these bleeding forms into floating spots which causes a problem in vision and blindness.

Blurring of vision, sudden appearance of dark floating spots, flashes of light are few common symptoms. Diagnosis can be done by performing retinal examination through a ophthalmoscopy, Optical coherence tomography and Fluorescein angiography. They is no curative treatment for this condition management of mild to moderate cases of diabetic retinopathy can be done by anti-VEGF injections, steroid injections, pan retinal laser photocoagulation, and vitrectomy.
