Depression :
Depression is a mental health disorder and is also known as a mood disorder. Depression will be referred to as major depressive disorder. The symptoms that are observed in depression will be sadness for a long duration, hopelessness, loss of interest, anger, irritability, sleep disturbances, tiredness, sleeping too much, reduced hunger, weight loss, weight gain, trouble in thinking, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, trouble concentrating, social withdrawal, self-harm or suicide attempt. The depression will be detected based on physical examination, enquiring about their feelings, lab tests, DSM -5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and through psychiatric evaluation. There will be various types of depression, which include anxious distress, psychotic features, mixed features, peripartum depression and postpartum depression. The treatment advised for depression will be through medications, psychotherapy, including interpersonal therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy, hospital treatment, and other options, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
