Deep Vein Thrombosis :
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is also called venous thrombosis, in which there is the formation of blood clots in the deep veins of the body. The causes of deep vein thrombosis include hereditary conditions, undergoing chemotherapy, less blood flow to veins due to surgery or injury or immobilization, sitting for longer periods of time, obesity, use of tobacco, consuming birth control pills, having a pacemaker, or a central venous catheter. The symptoms that are observed in deep vein thrombosis include red skin, pain in the leg while walking or standing, swelling of the leg, abdominal pain, enlarged veins, and a severe headache. The diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis will be based on the duplex venous ultrasound, MRI scan, venography, and CT scan. The management advised for deep vein thrombosis will be through medications to clear blood clots, a surgical procedure known as an inferior vena cava filter, and the use of compression stockings.
