Bronchoscopy :
Bronchoscopy is a diagnostic procedure done to closely observe the inner lining of the respiratory tract. The bronchoscope is a tube with a light at the end of it that is also attached to a camera. A bronchoscopy is advised and done by a Pulmonologist when there is suspected Tumor or cancer tissue, blocking of air way path or narrow air way path, in diseases like tuberculosis or pneumonia, when there is chronic cough that does not respond to medications, the imaging studies show abnormalities or there is Vocal cord paralysis. When a solid bronchoscope is sent in via the mouth or nasal passage, it can be used to remove foreign objects that are lodged in the throat or airways, can be used to suction off blood that is blocking the air way or to remove small lesions. On the other hand, a flexible bronchoscope is majorly used to put in a tube to assist breathing during operations and take tissue samples that can be analyzed in laboratory.
