Cystic Fibrosis :
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder which primarily effects lungs but can also effect other organs like intestines, pancreas, liver and kidneys. It causes thick secretion into lungs causing difficultly in breathing due to mucous accumulation in lungs and frequent lung infections. Cystic fibrosis can be classic cystic fibrosis or atypical cystic fibrosis depending on the severity of the symptoms. Respiratory symptoms of cystic fibrosis include a persistent cough with wheeze and thick mucus, frequent lung infections, Inflammation in nasal passages, stuffy nose, nasal polyps, recurrent sinusitis, shortness of breath over simple activity.
Non respiratory symptoms are loose stools, inability to gain weight, slow growth, pancreatitis. Cystic fibrosis can be diagnosed by simple sweat test where the sweat taste little more salter than normal and blood test for immuno-reactive trypsinogen. There is no specific treatment for cystic fibrosis, symptomatic treatment will help in managing the case.
