A uro oncologist refers to a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of the male reproductive organs and urinary tract. To certify as a uro oncologist, one has to complete five and half years of graduation and obtain an MBBS degree, followed by post graduation like MS in General Surgery and pursue M Ch/ DNB in Urology, along with an additional super specialization degree in Urologic Oncology. A uro oncologist commonly treats cancers such as prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and testicular cancer. The treatment modalities offered by a uro oncologist include chemotherapy, procedures like prostectomy, cystectomy and minimally invasive procedures, targeted therapy and radiation therapy and also manages post treatment complications. A uro oncologist collaborates with a team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, urologists and other supportive care teams to ensure the well being of patients.
