Radiation Oncologist :
A radiation oncologist is a cancer doctor who is specialized in treating cancer patients by providing radiation therapy to them. Radiation therapy is used to kill cancer cells by regulating doses of high energy radiation. Thus, a radiation oncologist deals with a wide variety of cancers, such as lung cancer, bone cancer, cancers of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, neurological), liver cancer, head and neck cancers, breast cancer and leukaemia. A radiation oncologist locates the exact position of the tumour and delivers radiation using external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) or internal beam radiation therapy (IBRT). These doctors work closely with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and other doctors to curate the most appropriate treatment plan for cancer patients and thus provide comprehensive care to them. Radiation oncologists also monitor the patient post radiation for side effects like fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, skin irritation, hair loss, mouth sores, abdominal bloating, etc.
