A stomach ulcer can be referred to as a sore that is present in the stomach lining. It can also be referred to as a gastric ulcer. The stomach ulcer or gastric ulcer can occur due to H.pylori infection, fungal infections, NSAIDS, bacterial infections, and stress. The symptoms that can be seen in a stomach ulcer will be indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, gastric pain, stomach bloating, nausea and vomiting, and bleeding. There are also silent ulcers that do not cause symptoms, but can lead to perforation or bleeding. The diagnosis of a stomach ulcer can be based on upper gastrointestinal tract X-rays and endoscopy. The treatment for stomach ulcers can be mainly based on the cause. It can be treated with medications, and in case of complicated ulcers, surgical treatment will be advised, such as removal of scar tissue, and cutting the nerve that triggers acid in the stomach, called vagotomy.
