Nystagmus :
Nystagmus can be referred to as a condition that affects the eye, causing it to move rapidly with uncontrolled movements. There are various types of nystagmus, such as acquired nystagmus and congenital nystagmus. Nystagmus will be seen with some health conditions, such as a brain tumor, head injury, stroke, toxicity, and inflammatory diseases. The major symptom of nystagmus can be uncontrolled and rapid movements of the eyes. The other symptoms that are seen with nystagmus can be blurred vision, balance problems, sensitivity to light, dizziness, a feeling of moving surroundings, and vertigo. The risk factors of nystagmus will be optic nerve disorders, developmental problems of the eye and brain, brain tumors, stroke, inner ear problems, albinism, astigmatism, eye problems, consumption of alcohol, and certain medications. The diagnosis of nystagmus can be done with a regular eye examination, and a neurologist will diagnose the condition of the brain. Management of nystagmus will be done depending on the cause with medications, eyeglasses or contact lenses, eye muscle surgery, or eye vision correction surgery.
