Corneal specialist :
A corneal specialist is an eye specialist who specializes in diseases and conditions affecting the cornea which is the clear, non vascular front layer of the eye. Some of the conditions treated by this specialist include corneal infections, injuries of the cornea, keratoconus which is the thinning or change of shape in the cornea and scarring of the cornea. They also provide corneal transplants along with the treatment of conditions secondary to the use of contact lenses. Corneal Specialists are MBBS graduates and they acquire MS in Ophthalmology after proper training or fellowship involving the care of the cornea and the anterior segment. A corneal specialist would treat with a variety of techniques which could range from the prescription of medicine to complex contact lenses to surgical interventions that include transplanting donor's healthy tissue to replace the diseased tissues. Usually a corneal disease patient requires to visit a specialist regularly, as early the treatment is initiated the eyes, the higher the chances of saving the eye of the patient.
