Polyhydramnios :
Polyhydramnios is a rare medical condition that is encountered during pregnancy.It typically means excess build up of amniotic fluid in amniotic sac.In majority of the cases polyhydramnios is mild, and often seen during middle or later stages of pregnancy.However severe case of polyhydramnios is a medical emergency which may cause preterm labour.This condition usually manifest in two types acute ( where the accumulation of the fluid occurs rapidly) and chronic ( the accumulation of the fluid is gradual).
Pregnants with mild polyhydramnios do not experience any symptoms, while those with more severe cases show symptoms such as heart burn,constipation, shortness of breath, abdominal pain or cramps and swelling of the feet. Although The exact cause of the condition remains unidentified, diabetes,genetic disorders in the fetus, fetal anemia, infection during pregnancy, and identical twin pregnancy are some of the contributing risk factors of the condition. Treatment exclusively depends on the severity of the condition involving hospitalization,draining the excess fluid or inducing labour.
