Myomectomy :
Myomectomy is a surgical procedure of removing the non cancerous, benign growths in the uterus called uterine fibroid or myoma. The uterus remains potential to conceive and bare the children again as it is preserved during surgery. Myomectomy can be performed in various types such as hysteroscopic myomectomy through a hysteroscope, laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive process to remove fibroid, abdominal myomectomy is an open surgery and robotic assisted myomectomy.
Few common indications of myomectomy are chronic pain in pelvic region, heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding in between menses, painful sexual intercourse, sensation of pressure over pelvic region, large fibroid, difficulty in conceiving or infertility. Myomectomy surgery is typically indicated when other methods of treatment fail to provide desired results. Risks and complications of myomectomy includes infection, damage to the surrounding organs, uterine perforations, bleeding, partial removal of fibroid, scar formation, recurrence of uterine fibroid, etc.
