Ureteroscopy :
The ureteroscope is inserted through urethra and urinary bladder to reach ureter and kidney. A ureteroscope is a long, flexible, thin tube containing a lens and light at one end. It is an out patient procedure which is performed under the effect of local anesthesia. ureteroscopy is usually done to clear any blockages in the ureter and most commonly to treat kidney stones.
During treatment after inserting the ureteroscope a laser beam is introduced to break the kidney stone present in the ureter. The small broken pieces of stone pass through the ureter and come out of urethra. If the stone is small in size a basket is present at the end which helps in collecting the stone and eliminate it. The procedure is not only performed for obstruction but also if there is any blood in urine.
