Tongue Cancer :
Tongue cancer is the cancerous condition affecting the tongue. Common type of tongue cancer seen is squamous cell carcinoma. The symptoms that are noticed in tongue cancer can be reddish or whitish patches on tongue, bleeding lump or mass on side of the tongue, ulcers on tongue cannot heal, skin on tongue becomes thick, ear pain, numbness in tongue, difficulty in chewing and swallowing, pain in the neck, hoarseness of voice, burning sensation of tongue, swollen jaw. Tongue cancer can be diagnosed through regular oral screenings and dental checkups by dentists. When there are any signs of tongue cancer, they may refer to specialist for further diagnosis and treatment. The other diagnostic tests to be done biopsy, MRI scan, CT scan, and PET scan. The treatment of tongue cancer can be done with surgical treatment such as glossectomy, in which partial or complete tongue is removed, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy.
