SRS :
As the name suggests Stereotactic radiosurgery -SRS is a minimally invasive radiation procedure which involves the usage of external ionization radiation in order to inactivate or destroy the abnormal tissue or cells. SRS does not involve opening or incision, instead it precisely aims at the targeted tissue from multiple directions ensuring minimal damage to the healthy surrounding tissue. Three different techniques are employed by the medical experts to deliver radiation during the Stereotactic radiosurgery namely Linear accelerator, Gama knife and photo beam therapy.
Due to its increased precision, less damage to the surrounding healthy tissue, decreased risk of infection Stereotactic radiosurgery is emerging to be a preferable treatment choice by the patients and the surgeons. SRS is popularly used to treat a wide variety of neurological and other conditions including brain tumor, Arteriovenous malformation,Trigeminal neuralgia, Acoustic neuroma, Pituitary tumors, tremors and other cancers. Some of the possible but temporary complications of SRS are fatigue, skin irritation at treatment site, headache, numbness, tingling or weakness, nausea vomiting etc.
