Splenectomy :
Splenectomy is the surgical removal of the spleen. The spleen is an essential organ in the lymphatic system, and it produces white blood cells to fight against infection. Splenectomy is a major surgery that will be done in case of blood disorders, ruptured spleen, enlarged spleen, infection, hypersplenism, benign growths, certain cancers like non-Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, and pancreatic surgery. There are two main types of splenectomy procedures: open splenectomy and laparoscopic splenectomy. After the splenectomy is performed, there are measures to be taken, such as having regular vaccinations and consuming the required antibiotics. The complications that can be observed with splenectomy will be blood clots, lung collapse, hernia, infections, in case of sepsis, pancreatitis, trauma to the colon, and post-splenectomy infection can be fatal. Before doing the procedure of splenectomy, there will be some diagnostic tests to be done, which include an MRI scan, a CT scan, a chest X-ray, and an electrocardiogram (ECG).
