Seizures :
A seizure is a rapid increase in the electrical activity inside the brain. Such an increase in brain activity can make an individual move uncontrollably or lose consciousness. In some cases, an affected individual may stare blankly or twitch their muscles without losing consciousness. Other symptoms of a seizure include drooling, clenching the jaw, abnormal eye movements, emotional changes and loss of control over the bladder or bowels.
A neurologist can diagnose a seizure by performing a physical and neurological exam. The doctor may order several tests, including CT scans, blood tests, EEG, PET and MRI. The treatment of seizures depends on the type of seizure, its severity and underlying cause. Treatment options include medications, brain stimulation and surgery.
