Stereotactic radiation therapy (SBRT) is a external radiation therapy that sends radiation specifically and precisely to the place where tumour is present in the body. SRBT is an advanced type of radiation therapy and it differs from other radiation therapies by having a minimal damage to the healthy issue. It damages the DNA of the and shrink it there by stopping the division.
The total amount of radiation that needs to be given to a person is divided into sessions of several small doses. There are two types of SBRT which include Linear accelerator, popularly known as LINAC and Proton beam which is also called charged particle. It is commonly used in conditions such as lung cancers, liver cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, brain tumour, spine tumors, etc. Patient may experience extreme weakness, nausea, vomiting, swelling and discoloration of the skin, bone weakness, lymphedema, etc. Cancerous growths are shrunk faster compared to the benign tumors.
