Renal Artery stenosis :
Narrowing of the blood vessel, which might be one or both, resulting in decreased blood flow in the renal artery is called renal artery stenosis. The renal artery might be unilateral or bilateral. Renal artery stenosis diagnosis is made by a complete physical examination, urine analysis, CT and MRI of the kidneys, and a renal angiography if required. Patients with renal artery stenosis might experience nausea, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, unexplained weight loss, edema, fatigue, swelling of legs, frequent urination, and muscle cramps. Patients with uncontrolled blood sugars, uncontrolled blood pressure, obesity, and a strong history of CAD are more prone to have renal artery stenosis. Lifestyle modifications like quitting smoking, regular exercise, and losing weight might be advised. Renal artery stenosis, if left untreated, might lead to kidney failure, renal hypertension, and chronic kidney disease. Treatment of renal artery stenosis includes medical management, such as the administration of medicines like diuretics, statins and beta blockers. Interventional treatment measures include renal angioplasty, renal artery bypass and renal endarterectomy.
