Renal Angioplasty :
Renal angioplasty is a procedure to clear the blockages or narrow the renal arteries. Usually, these blockages are formed due to atherosclerosis and plaques due to pre-existing diseases like uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and unhealthy lifestyles like smoking and alcohol abuse. Renal angioplasty is performed after renal angiogram and if there is a blockage of more than 60%. This procedure is minimally invasive and is performed through the femoral route and under fluoroscopy. Prior to renal angioplasty, the patient would be advised certain basic blood investigations, doppler scan of lower limbs, and a renal angiogram. A thin catheter, along with the balloon, is inserted through the femoral route and is dilated near the narrowed blood vessel, which pushes the blockages aside, resulting in a free flow of the blood. In some cases, even a stent is placed if the interventional radiologists of Post procedure complications include hematoma, bleeding, vessel injury, allergic reaction, vasovagal episode, and injury to the kidney.
