Renal Angioplasty :
Renal angioplasty is a surgical procedure that aims at widening the narrowed or blocked blood vessels that supply blood to the kidneys. Renal angioplasty is recommended to prevent blocks in the arteries and renal artery stenosis, which causes high blood pressure and also kidney damage. This minimally invasive procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist and involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel in the groin, which is guided to the narrowed renal artery, followed by inflating a balloon at the tip of the catheter, which widens the artery. Imaging tests like CT, MRI, duplex Doppler ultrasonography and angiogram are conducted prior to this procedure. Renal angioplasty treats high blood pressure by reducing it, prevents kidney damage, provides a fast recovery, and restores the blood flow. The side effects of renal angioplasty include bleeding at the entry site, blockage or stent migration, damage to the kidney, narrowing of the artery again over time, and allergic reaction to the contrast dye.
