Pulmonary valve stenosis :
The pulmonary valve controls the flow of oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs. Moreover, the valve prevents the backward flow of blood from the lungs to the heart. Pulmonary valve stenosis is a birth defect in which the pulmonary valve is too thick. The excess thickness leads to less blood flow to the lungs.
Pulmonary valve stenosis can cause symptoms like fast heartbeat, tiredness, shortness of breath, swelling in the limbs and dizziness. The diagnosis of this condition involves a number of heart tests including cardiac MRI, chest X-ray and EKG. A cardiologist may also order other tests such as pulmonary angiography and cardiac catheterization. Pulmonary valve stenosis may not require treatment if it does not cause symptoms. But in many cases, a valve replacement surgery is required for relief.
