Pulmonary valve stenosis :
When the blood flow is reduced from the right ventricle into the pulmonary artery due to the thickening of the pulmonary valve, it is called pulmonary valve stenosis. It is a congenital heart disease. It is not necessary for all patients suffering from pulmonary valve stenosis to have symptoms. However, the common symptoms that a patient might present include severe shortness of breath during some activity, fatigue, chest pain, occasional fainting, and discoloration of the skin. Pulmonary valve stenosis is diagnosed by a thorough physical examination and also through certain investigations like ECG, Chest x-ray, 2D echocardiogram, Cardiac MRI, Trans thoracic echocardiogram, and cardiac catheterization. Balloon valvuloplasty is considered one of the choices of treatment, but over a period of time, there is a chance of narrowing of the valve, and where the patient might ultimately need surgery. The second option would be open heart surgery, where there would be an option for the surgeon to repair the other heart issues, too. Regular follow-up and periodic checkups are advised for patients with this disease.
